I welcome you saints of the living God, who have obtained a share of our precious faith through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, to another edition of our periodic podcasts to strengthen and to encourage us in this 480 Days walk with the Lord. May grace and peace be multiplied unto you, as you live in the rich knowledge of God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him be glory forevermore.
Brethren is now over 40 days in our march to perfection in Christ Jesus and this edition is to briefly remind us of the values of the expected daily activities that will equip us as vessels sanctified and fit for the Master’s use.
Fasting as part of our routine daily activities in this period, is one of the ways to present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service. This is the best we can offer to God, far above money, or anything worldly, religious practices or titles.
To make this a reality Jesus Christ according to the book of Heb. 10:5-10 came to remove the sacrifices offered under the law, for in burnt offerings and sacrifices God has no pleasure, and to replace it, He offered His body once and for all for our sanctification.
Brethren, fasting plays a big role in purifying, and preparing our (body) as the temple of God. Jesus Christ was confronted in Matt. 9. That the disciples of John and that of the pharisees fast often but His disciples do not fast. He emphasized that they do not need to fast while He is yet still with them, but time will come when they shall fast. The reason is that until His dead and resurrection, fasting for His disciples is like putting new wine into old wine bottle or using new garment to patch an old garment (that is trying to mix or combine the old doctrine with the gospel of the kingdom of God), it cannot work. But the finished work of salvation, provided the grace which includes fasting to sanctify and prepare our bodies to be able to receive the new wine-which is the new life in Christ Jesus.
True to His word, Jesus Christ after His death and resurrection, His disciples fasted often. For instance, at the upper room, His disciples waited and were purged of every dead works, and being of one accord, the Holy Spirit filled and empowered them. Paul in 2 Cor. 11:27, confirmed that, he fasts often (regularly, frequently, fasting was a habit a way of life for him), no wonder he did great exploits in the name of Jesus Christ.
Fasting as an act of God’s grace, is a step to qualify us and make us to be part of the heritage of the saints in the kingdom of God. Therefore, fasting is our call, and we must answer to it.
For emphasis, note that that fasting, which is basically abstaining from food and other worldly activities to spend more time and fellowship in waiting upon the Lord is not an end to sanctification or holy living.
As important as fasting is, we must combine it with the grace of prayer and the word of God. So, while we fast, we must be in constant fellowship with the word of God that sanctifies. It is written in 1 Cor. 1:30 “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:” Also, John 15:3 declares that we are cleansed through the word of God. Jesus Christ in the book of John 17:17 asked the Father to sanctify us through the word and in Eph. 5:26 the gospel affirms that we are sanctified and cleansed by the washing of water by the word. Therefore, we must drink of this water of life through reading and meditated on the word of God daily to be purified as vessels of honour fit for the Master’s use.
Therefore, brethren the role of fasting, the word of God and prayer in this period of 480 Days with the Lord cannot be neglected or played down in any form, if we must reap the fruit of this retreat. So, lets continue to pray daily, lets continue to fast daily and let us continue to drink of the water of the word of God daily. I assure you that as we walk in this grace, our light will continue to shine brighter and brighter till the full light of day.
Those, who are yet to join this retreat, I encourage to do so, those who are already in it I persuade to remain for your days of glory is nearer than you think. Remember, is a narrow way and Jesus said if you suffer with me you will also be gloried with me. Let nothing deter you in this journey of greatness.
I also remind us to drink a lot of water because is a long fast, to use our pray bulletin as guide for life building prayer points and to depend on the Holy Spirit to see us through this period.
My prayer is that the Almighty will fill us with His grace, to enable us walk in His steps towards our perfection in Christ Jesus to His glory and honour. Amen!
God bless you and bless the Church in your House.
